Acid Reflux / GERD Board Index

Anyone with reflux, do you experienced a whitish coat on your tongue? It also burns at times :blob_fire . I wonder if my Reflux is turning into LPR.
Mike

A coating on the tongue might be yeast related
It is not yeast related because it doesn't peel off. It is not plaques, it is just a furry looking tongue with a whitish tint to it. I go to an acupunturist and she told me that people with reflux usually have a coated tongue due to the PPI's. I was curious if anyone suffers from it.
I had this long before I started ppi's. Before I realized I even had reflux, I always noticed this about my tongue. I'd like to know what causes it too but I lean towards the aerosal from pepsin or acid and the sensitivity of the tongue to it.
Tricia,

Me too before I knew what I had, I always had this furry looking tongue. Well my mom used to say to me your tongue is white. I never paid any attention to it. I used to have heart burn back in my college years but nothing that tums didn't take care of. Now here I am with something called GERD. I am just amazed how many people are being diagnosed with this condition. I wonder what is really the cause of this condition.
I have lpr and also get the white tongue and the burning feeling. It feels more to me like it is sizzling. And nothing makes it go away when it is happening. Sometimes my lips even tingle. I take aciphex twice a day and 300 mg of zantac at night. I swear this is never going to stop - lol Lori
Hi

I think gerd can be caused by stress. I was on stress leave and lying around feeling depressed about my job and got gastric reflux. How long does it take to go away. I am on nexium one a day also have raised up the bed. I heard appple cider vinegar is good. My stomach was in knots and gurgling all the time.- I have a white coated tongue too from the acid coming up and dry mouth.

I was recently placed on Aciphex once per day. I haven't been officially Dx with LPR just Acid reflux. I believe it is developing into LPR now. I have developed mucus in the throat that I am constantly clearing. Also get the lump feeling in the throat. I stopped the Aciphex after 10 days even though I believe it was helping, but the side effects were horrible. I got muscle and joint pain, fatigue, and mild itching. I was also developing chest pains so I decided to stop it for a week and see what happens. I know the itching and the muscle and joint pain are subsiding. I have been on Nexium, Zegerid, Prilosec otc, now Aciphex. I just get so disappointed everytime I develop the side effects. Seems like I am doomed to suffer with this the rest of my life. I am going to see my ENT on Monday and see if can scope my throat to see if he sees any acid damage. He is treating me for a sinus condition.
I have always had a white coated tounge, I dont think its because of the reflux or any ppi's at least in my case anyway. I've noticed that alot of people have white stuff on their tounge. Only thing I know to do is try and scrub as much as I can off every time I brush.
