Acid Reflux / GERD Message Board

Acid Reflux / GERD Board Index

Hi everyone, I am brand new to the boards though I have been a lurker for a long time. I am not sure what is happening with me, so I will describe the symptoms.

I have not been diagnosed with acid reflux, but am fairly certain I have had it for a while now, and it's gotten worse. Sometimes when I belch it burns so bad in the base of my throat/esophagus that I have to cough. It always feels like the base of my throat feels full and burns.

Well, recently I had to have a dental surgery and I had an infection in my jaw and my bone, so the dentist put me on 3 medications all at once. Clindamycin 150mg, Flagyl 250mg, and a Medrol dose pack 4mg. I was taking the Clindamycin and Flagyl 1 pill 3 times a day, and the Medrol started with 6 pills a day and tapered down each day.

It felt like the pills were getting stuck in my throat, but I kept telling myself there is no way that is happening. I burped once and a pill came back up, but that was it.

The second to the last day I was on the meds, I started getting some odd spasms in my chest and throat. I am highly nervous/anxious by nature (not taking any meds for that, and never have) but I figured it was just because I was nervous about the upcoming dental surgery.

I stopped the medications over a month ago (It was only a 7 day doseage cycle). I broke out in a weird hive on my upper chest and neck for about 5 days, little tiny prickles, they went away.

Now, I am having very odd spasms...some of them last hours on end. It feels like it will begin from under my left breast and move to the middle of my chest/breastbone, and move into my throat and esophagus. They don't hurt, it just feels like fluttering, no pain no shortness of breath. But the fluttering is really really strong.

It does seem to get worse when I eat or when I am hungry. The more it happens the more nervous I get, and the worse these spasms become. I keep trying to relax myself and breathe.

I also have a feeling of soreness/fullness in between my breastbone, kind of like where the stomach meets up with your chest. Again it's not like a stabbing pain, just full and weird.

If anyone knows what this might be, please let me know. It is really hard for me to get to my doctor because my boyfriend and I share 1 car right now, but I am hoping to get in sometime this week because this is beyond scaring me now.

Thanks everyone!
