I am on 20mg am and pm of Omeprazole right now after having to take none for 10 days prior to an endoscopy brought on Gastritis/Duodenitis....I can tell you rebound acid reflux is horrible As soon as I feel healed I am going to very slowly wean off ppi's as I don't like the side effects and compromised digestion of nutrients I think the best way is to have the capsules... ... Thanks, Kacyc for all the good advice. That's great that you were able to totally stop taking it. You are right about doing it very slowly, that is the key. And to not get discouraged ! The hardest part for me is not being able to have any alcohol and very little chocolate during this whole process. Hopefully, someday, I can have an occasional drink without suffering. ... ... Hello everyone, thanks for all the replies. Yes I am now in the process of cutting out all the 'bad' foods including tomatoes, chocolate, alcohol, mints, etc and it is very hard ! You really need to read labels to make sure there aren't lots of spices in foods. I am not overweight and I try not to eat 2-3 hours before bed, always smaller, more frequent meals. I also have... ... Hi and welcome! PPIs are one medicine that don't work as well if you crush/chew/split them. You might want to have Gavison as a back up and any H2 OTC on hand. As the others said, take it very slow. Maybe you do 40mg for 4 out of 5 days for a few weeks, and then slowly reduce it. Find out your triggers and avoid them. Make sure you're discussing this with your doctor. (9 replies)
