HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF SUBOXONE? ASK YOUR DOCTOR ABOUT IT. IT HAS WORKED FOR ME AND I WAS ON VICODIN FOR OVER 5 YEARS!!!!

GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS:blob_fire
Suboxone is frightening to me because it is simply another opiate, like methadone, heroin, morphine, dilaudid, oxycodone, etc. etc.

Subutex/Suboxone and its precursor buprenex were originally used to wean opiate addicts off street drugs like heroin. These drugs substitute for the street heroin or other opiates and excludes the street drugs from the receptor sites. When used for a short period of time it does not develop such a strong habit of its own and eases the transition from street opiates like heroin to a more controlled pharmaceutical regimen.

However, so many people didn't get off during those recommended 10 - 14 days that it eventually was prescribed as long term maintenance, just like methadone. It's legal, but it's still highly addictive.

People say that suboxone has less euphoric qualities and hence less addiction potential than some other opiates, but if less addictive then why can't people get off for many years?

Also, all opiates build up a tolerance to where the "high" is apparent for only a short time after the dose. I know that people who have tried buprenorphine (the active ingredient in subutex/suboxone/buprenex) "for kicks" while clean and not addicted have gotten so high they were throwing up for hours. That's how strong the stuff is - a person just doesn't realize it because such a great tolerance has been developed.

I think it's great that you got off what was probably an illegally supplied Vicodin habit over to a legally prescribed suboxone habit, but it would be wrong to say that these two are not opiates, and advising someone who is not on opiates at all to switch over from benzodiazepines to opiates I would think would not be good advice.
