I am a 42 year old female. I had a CBC less than a year ago and it was normal. I went to the doctor because I went from being very hot natured to wearing a jacket in the summer at all times. Also I have been falling asleep while driving, working, talking on the phone, etc. I also have severe RLS and I am an excessive ice chewer. I have chipped teeth, but I cannot stop chewing ice all day long every day. My upper and lower back hurts all the time, so much that I have to take pain medication so I can work and support my seven year old son and myself. My CBC at the doctor's office showed a Hgb of less than 8 and a HCT of 27. My anemia panel shows an iron level of 7 and a iron sat of 4. My doctor sent me for a blood transfusion of (2) units packed RBC's. I have never been anemic in my life. I do have irregular and sometimes heavy painful menstrual cycles, but this is nothing new. However, the PMS I have been suffering lately is horrible, I am so irritable, paranoid, emotional, etc., that it is all I can do to work sometimes. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for me?
