Last week I went to the Dr after feeling unwell for a good 2wks.

I have been walking around feeling like I'm a haze all the time. Forgetting things, dizziness, off balance, weak painful muscles, extreme fatigue, no appetite etc

My dr wasn't in when I called but they fit me and I saw the nurse practitioner.

I mentioned to him that I had also just finished a very long heavy period that lasted for 17 days.

I ran off my list of symptoms and stated my concerns....he shrugged it off as seasonal blues because it's been such a long cold winter. He also said that fatigue is one of the most common things people come to the dr for.

I insisted he check my thyroid, iron, B12, D and estrogen to rule out anything. Got a call from the Doc's office on Tues and was told my red cell count and iron is VERY low. Went in to see my doc yesterday , he said my iron level is 9 and prescribed 900mg of iron/day for the next 3 months. He said it will take that long just to get my levels back up to normal and then we'll recheck.

Was told to expect about 10 days before I start feeling better.

My understanding is that 18 mg of iron/day is the recommended intake so am a little concerned that the 900mg he has me on is excessive . Can't that cause iron overload?
