... Your blood might not have healthy cells. You might not be taking the type of iron that your body can utilize. There are all sorts of issues that can happen that cannot necessarily be known by the patient. Please ask your doctor what all of this means and whether you need to continue what you are doing or need to be doing something different. (5 replies)
... Dear skt77, You might do better with food sources of iron such as chicken and fish. Eat a variety of iron sources combined with vit C sources to get iron absorbed into the body. Vitamin C-rich foods increase the absorption of iron. Such as lemon juice on spinach salad or lemon with fish or shell-fish. We really do need to eat a balanced diet. I have never seen an... ... t think it was IDA but it could be folic acid deficiency which is why I am taking folate supplements. She did mention I may need to start iron after next set of labs are taken. ... You definitely need to follow the doctors orders on taking the iron. My hemoglobin was 11.7 and I feel the effects. I started taking iron last week. I will recheck my TIBC ( iron labs), ferritin and Hgb in two months. I also take it with vitamin c (orange juice) and a multi with folic acid to aid in absorption. Hopefully you will get results with taking it in liquid form.... (1 replies)

It is labs you need to thoroughly check for your iron. I also checked my hemoglobin which was only 11.7 but still low. I think I am mildly anemic. I started iron last week. ... (3 replies)
