... Hi Bethesba, thanks for the support. yes, I can give you more details. It started back in September of '07 when she was complaining of severe stomach pains and the doctor diagnosed her with H Pylori and GERD. He put her on Nexium, CIPRO and was on Omeprazole as well. These are all stomach meds and she started on them in March '07. In April she was put on Phenazopyridine... (89 replies)

... Kimy27--B-12 deficiency can be due to AI--Autoimmune reasons, one of which is PA-Pernicious Anemia, which you have already ruled out by the IF test. I have read that IF testing is only 50 percent specific but much more specific in testing for Parietal Cell. ... Rileyroe is right -- Prenious anemia test is a good place to start. Another thing not mentioned is medication-- If you are taking a PPI (Proton Pump inhibitor) like Prilosec, Nexium, Prevacid or Aciphix to reduce stomach acid for throat problem it can inhibit the absorption of vitamin B-12. ... as well as B12. If you are on a PPI for acid reflux, you will have issues absorbing iron as well as vitamin B. Iron deficiency causes small red bloodcells, but B12 deficiency causes large ones. In response to your questioning if Nexium would block the iron absorbtion-*Yes it does just as Prilosec does-thus that is why I get infusions BUT I had to get off of this med & go on Zantac. Infusions do not effect the absorbtion as it doesn't go through the intestinal track & that is where the iron gets blocked. If you have not seen a hemotologist yet-well shame on... (74 replies)
