You can have RA and test negative. I did. I had negative CRP, ESR, Rheumatoid Factor and negative Anti-ccp, but I have 3 fingers that swelled and the swelling is not going away. Apparently, most people that have AS do test HLA-B27 positive (it's a high percentage, something like 80-90% I believe)...so, maybe your doc is weighing that in. Doesn't say how you got arthritis - from injury, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis or autoimmune disease.
"L4-L5 Concentric protrusion" sounds like you might have a slipped disc or the start of one in your lower back.
