... Hi Tess, Yes surgery is your next option as you have lost cartilage & your 2 bones, thumb & wrist are grinding against each other. I dont know of another option for you. The recuperation, done with good physio can be from 4 months to 1 year. If the surgery is done properly, like mine was ( both hands) you should be able to write perfectly after 3-4 months.
