Hello everyone, First I would like to say I am sorry to see so many people in so much pain. As frustrated as I have been after reading some of the posts I feel blessed that I only have to deal with chronic mild, annoying, pain. I Am happy to say I can remain functional about 75% of my time by taking ibuprophen. I am not pain free but f I coordinate my activates so I am rotating between sitting, standing and kicking back on the couch , the pain is tolerable.

Any way here is my story: several months ago I was lifting a box @ work and I thought I pulled a muscle in my low back/butt. The pain was bothersome but I would just work through it and take it easy on the weekends. This pain would come and go depending on my activity level. The pan was so mild I didn’t bother taking anything for it. I thought I was just aggravating the muscle had pulled.

I had to do a major reset in my warehouse about a month after I pulled this muscle. While someone was helping me move a shelving unit I experienced pain that was worse than going through labor and having a root canal done at the same time! It put me to the floor! I kind of half sat and laid on the floor until I thought the pain had subsided enough for me to get up. I asked my co worker to give me a hand getting up. He helped me up and went back down stairs. As I stood there with all of my weight on my left leg I started getting nauseous and dizzy but I knew I had to get downstairs to my phone so I could call my husband. As soon as I stepped on my right leg I was on the floor again. I literally thought I was going to have an accident in my pants. (blush) It took a lot of time and a lot of pain but I finally made it downstairs where someone took me to the ER

After giving me an IV of something and taking the most painful UA I have ever experienced They told me it was sciatica and I should go to a doctor if I still hurt in a few days. I don’t know what they gave me but the nice thing was I was able to walk out of the ER. It hurt like %#!# but I did it.

Any way it is over three months later and I have had:
An MRI showing a minor L5 S1 Bulge
PT
Osteopathic treatment
I have been strapped to a traction table
Hung almost upside down (the stretch of that one actually feels good)
Hooked up to electrodes
Fed ibuphrophen, sklakin, Hydrocodone, and Lyrica (Only 1 week on Lyrica) (HATE all THE PILLS!)
Stuck with needles including a steroid epidural……..
And I have had to deal with menses that is out of control crazy!

my questions are:
what’s next? Discography? If so is Google the best way to find out about it?

I have been on Lyrica for 1 week and I still feel a bit loopy and it seems to be intensifying my ADD symptoms a good example would be I can’t remember if I took my Lyrica this morning. J Any one else experiencing problems with Lyrica? Do they eventually subside?

I also intensified my PT after 5 days on Lyrica. I could feel the pinching feeling I usually try to avoid on a day to day basis. I was in a good amount of pain several hours after PT the pan even continued to increase after I took Hydrocodone. I also experienced more intense tingling than ever. I thought the Lyrica was supposed to help with that? Does the Lyrica take longer than a week to work? Sometimes I wonder if I am crazy, and this pain all in my head? Nothing seems to be working. :p

Now for the female questions:
I went nearly 2 months without my period. In the last month and a half I have had 4 short cycles. One that fell in my “normal” cycle 2 directly after steroid injections and one after the last PT session. I thought that the steroids were making me cycle prematurely but now I am wondering if it is the pain…Each time I cycled irregularly I was in a fair amount of pain. I asked my back doc but he didn’t know. Has any one else experienced this?

Finally (blush) My sex life is suffering too. This is a bit embarrassing to ask but um: did any one else loose the ability to have a strong sexual climax? After my injury mine are less than satisfying. What's up with my body? :blob_fire

Sorry I was so long winded I would appreciate any advice thank you
Owie, Since my two surgeries I have very little feeling at all "down there." In fact, one of my therapists said that with two surgeries cutting through my back nerves I may never re-gain feeling. So, yes it is possible that you may be suffering some diminished feeling. [we need a blushing smilie here.]

What did your back doctor suggest as the next course of action? He should be guiding you down the road.

Lyrica is for nerve pain. You didn't mention what dose you were on or how often you take it. It isn't designed to stop pain...just the nerve issues. It does have some nasty side effects. I felt like i was in the old TV show SLIDERS...you know where you were in a parallel universe? Weird. It also caused a good amount of weight gain...sigh........

hang in there!

I think the sex question is a good one to ask and should be discussed. Actually, before my fusion 7 weeks ago my sex life dulled due to the fact that I was in too much pain to have it or to fully enjoy it. Since my fusion I have not attempted it. My bf is too scared he will hurt me and so am I. I think I will start a thread on this subject. You should talk to either your back doctor or your gyno. Best of luck. I'm sorry you're having so much trouble.

Oh yeah, the side effect

Doc said we will see how the Lyrica works and try another ESI from another direction. I donít really want to do that, Steroids seem to cause more pain for a few days and then back to the same pain I had before.

I am taking Lyrica 50 3 times a day until Monday than 75 3 times a day. Are one of the side effects involuntary leg twitching on my bad side or could that bean effect from OD on PT. :dizzy:
Hi Owie, and welcome to the board.

As far as the female questions, those are good ones for your ob/gyn. It may be embarrassing, but when I've swallowed my embarrassment and asked my various questions in the past, I've been pleasantly surprised that my doctor didn't make me feel awkward, but put me as ease and answered my concerns seriously and sensitively. Good luck, and I hope you can get some answers soon.

Blessings,
Emily
I guess I should set up an appointment, all these appointments are getting to be like having a part time job.:p So far none of my 3 docís have had an answer for me on either fem. Concern.

I was starting to worry that I should not have asked but I was hoping to at least find out I am not alone and crazy! I will watch for your thread. :D
sorry, don't know what happened there. The side effects of Lyrica are crazy. I felt out of my head for about a week until I got used to it. Good Luck.
I canít wait until I am feeling more myself, I donít even feel comfortable enough to drive. The hopes of the Doc and I are that the Lyrica will calm things enough so I can work harder @ PT. I am told If I get my core strong the disk will go back in. Honestly, I am afraid itís going to pop it out more by the way I am feeling after my last PT session. I am definitely having more nerve stuff going on. And it is traveling further down my leg. The last thing I want to do is end up where I was a few months ago.!

Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences.
Hi Owie..(appropriate title). Are you currently taking any medications for your ADD? If so, I would get in touch with the doctor that is treating your for the ADD & discuss your physical issues and medications that have been perscribed for you, JUST to make sure there are no issues with taking the various medications, especially for neuro.

The irregular menustration is normal, especially when steroids are introduced, and then pain killers, etc etc. Our bodies get totally thrown out of balance. Are you on birth control? You also want to be checked to make sure that you also do not have any underlying issues female wise going on.

Unfortunately, we have to check everything to rule them out as possible pain generators.

Sex is a big issue for us back pain sufferers. It is, doesnt matter if you are male or female on this one.

It is entirely possible that you can overdo your PT and cause it to bulge out further. There is no guarantee that the PT you are doing and no matter how strong the core is.. it may not heal or rescend to it's position. BUT IT CAN, and you need to do everything to try and make that happen. The exercise is a must. (Unfortunately the things that help, often also can hurt us.)

I was a work-out fiend (did body sculpting every day) and had 8 pack abs of steel along with very little body fat and lean but well developed body muscle throughout when I blew out my l4/l5. Doc says there was nothing I could have done to prevent it. Maybe NOT lifting all the furniture out of my 3 story apartment might have helped though! lol.

IF there is a chance the epidurals will help, you should at least try. They can go in, in several different directions to get at the "possible" target that causing your pain. Might help.

Hang in there. There is nothing easy or quick about this unfortunately, and you will have to put a great deal of patience into this process. Everyone on here understands exactly what you are going through. Hang in there.

I was prescribed adderol but I don’t take it on a regular basis . (I have a very patient family) . I don’t like the way I feel when I am taking them, although they work wonderfully. I have been tempted to take them while I get used to the Lyrica but I want to wait and see . looks like I should get used to the Lyrica and start thinking straight for me again. I think if the spacey mess continues much longer I’m going to ask about other options. I hate taking pills I wish There was something else I could do to manage the pain.

I Had my tubes tied….Although I saw my ob about a month before I hurt myself I will go again.

I Also used to work out a bit. Although I didn’t have the 6 pack abs every time I get on the treadmill I wish I could take off like I used to be able to. Anyway, The pain after PT was not at all like the pain after working out. that’s why it worried me. I tried to get in touch with doc to see if I should back off or continue but sense it is Friday I don’t expect to hear from him until next week. I kind of feel like I am being a pain in the butt contacting the doc but I don’t see him for 2 more weeks and the last thing I want to do is move backward.
