Hey Guys !

I'm a newbie and I can't wait to get to know you all.

As of today I am 6 days post op from an laminectomy and disectomy on my
L5/S1 for spinal stenosis due to a 22 x14 x9 x12 mm disc extrusion as well as a herniated disc just above that one and three other disc are bulging on top of that one. I did physical therapy for 3.5 months and took 4 steroid epidural shots in a little under three months.. they only lasted for about a week. I was seeing a orthopedic surgeon that in so many words told me that I needed to stay in bed and let my family take care of my kids for the next 12 months untill I got better. Unsatisfied with his perscription I got a referal to the Howell and Allen clinic and say nerosurgeon Voughn Allen.. he took a look at my MRI and came in the room in disbelief that I was walking and not in tears. He said that I needed to go ahead and do surgery so that I dont continue to have nerve damage... so that following tuesday he had me in surgery and as far as I can tell it was successfull but I'm sure I woln't really be able to tell untill I'm fully recovered.
I'm feeling pretty good with the exception of my wound and the numb left foot. I started a walking program yesterday and I hope to continue to improve over time. Before surgery I was running and lifting every day with the exception of sunday. Of course over time as my pain increased and after physical therapy I had to alter what I was doing so that I didnt make my condition worse but I still stayed active. The walking program I have started is satisfying my need to get out and do bug ...BUT... I have soo many questions ...so I wanted to find a community where I could connect with others like me.. hopefully we can share support and success together! The question that keeps stirring around in my head is... Will I ever be able to run or lift heavy again after a year from now? I'm studying to become a personal trainer and I have dreams of competing in natural body building... is this going to continue just to be a dream..should I still try to train... I'm allso going to school to be a middle school science teacher... I just wonder If I will be able to teach the way I would like to...
I'm trying to stay positive but it would help to hear from others ... :)
