Shaving your legs certainly is important to you....I would disagree somewhat with what your dad told you about bending and twisting. I think it is better that the patient think NO blt because once you start giving yourself permission to do it once during the day, pretty soon you're doing it more and more often. Of course bending very occasionally is not going to destroy a fusion....it is the repetitious bending that can cause issues...but it is also best to avoid situations that are going to initiate pain, because that often indicates that tissue is starting to swell...and it is really wise to keep the amount of inflammation to a minimum. Once you get a "flare" going, it can be difficult to get it back under control.

A number of patients complain about itching from the steri-strips. They seem to set off a slight allergic reaction. Did you call your surgeon and ask about it? Some surgeons have their patients remove the steri-strips and wash the area, then apply benadryl ointment or similar...but don't do that without asking your surgeon.
