... I had my microdisectomy in June of 2004, and within a few months I re-herniated. In November of 2005, I had a 2 level disectomy, laminectomy, foraminotomy, decompression, and a hemilectomy. I am now awaiting the dreaded discogram on October 13 to verify how many level fusion I need. The first Dr. I saw was an Orthopedic Surgeon. The 2nd Dr. was a Spine Specialist, and he... (6 replies)

I'm sorry to hear that you are in so much pain and discomfort with your back. I have had back pain (pain that basically took away any social life)for about 16 months. I had surgery 2 weeks ago. And as much as I did not want to have the surgery, I decided to have it because I was in so much pain, that I needed to do it. I can honestly say that my back pain was... (6 replies)

Just a quick hello.. Will and Grace is on and it is one of my favortie shows. I think they could call it Karen and Jack because they are they funnier of the four!!
I am feeling great these days. I visit the doctor on Monday. First time since surgery. I haven't been told to be doing any stretches, although I have been doing the ones we have discussed. ... (803 replies)
... Hello All,
Just a quick note to Jess. I am almost 5 weeks post op and I am attempting the stretches you mention. The only difference is I do them standing with my foot on a bench or chair edge. I square my hips and contract my abs to keep my back stable. My non-op leg stretches much more than my op leg, but I have noticed an improvement in the couple weeks that I have... (803 replies)
Excuse me for my ignorance but I don't know what a "sway" back is? Could you describe it a bit more or reference a place I could read about it?

It's Tra! I am past the four week mark and feeling great. I am fixing my hubby breakfast today!! Just a fried egg sandwich but it is nice to be back to some everday things!
I have been walking a lot. I walked 3 miles the other day. It took about 1 hour and 15 minutes, but I did it without being winded. I am apprehensive to pick up the pace. I stop and... (803 replies)
I have a soft spot for truck drivers. My dear friend has been doing it for ten years. :) Great guy!
Anyway...I think the advice I have to give, you probably have already heard. (Or maybe will make your job tougher) Sitting puts the most pressure on your discs. You should be stopping and stretching every few hours. Get out and walk around. (I know that doesn't... (4 replies)

I was wondering how long your butterfly tape remained over your incision? I was told not to remove the tape, and to just trim the ends as they curl. However, it has been 3 1/2 weeks and I am wondering if it should have fallen off by now. I have been... (3 replies)

Just a quick note to Carol. I am siked for you that you got to "shake that ass!" hehe Maybe not in full flavor but enough to feel great! You deserve it after all you have been through.

Well, I am up very early!! (On top of being spring ahead!) Chad and I put an offer in on a house yesterday and got a counter back around 8p.m. We countered back and did not hear before bed. Needless to say, we are a tad anxious. I thought I would come and check in on the boards!

... Hi Dolphin,
I have tried the Vax-D treatment. Unfortunately, it did not work for me, and was the last thing I did before surgery. I think the treatment is great, but not for the "massive" herniation I had. The ortho doctors tried to tell my that the chances are it wouldn't work for me, but I wanted to try everything before surgery.

I have recently had a discectomy on L4-5 and was diagnosed with Degenerative Disc Disease. I am recovering just great. Of course, I want to do everything I can to keep my back as healthy as possible from this point forward. I was wondering what people take, as far as supplements, (if anything) for optimal disc health.
Thanks for your advice!
