... Welcome to the board. From your description, I would not be surprised if your spine surgeon recommends surgery to relieve the pressure on the nerve. You may have a herniated or ruptured disc but you may also have spinal stenosis. Stenosis means narrowing and this occurs in two places in the back/neck: in the central canal and in the neuro foramen which are openings located... (53 replies)
