... Ben, I agree with Kat's post and think you need to find a new pdoc. I also worry about this nurse telling you that it's fine to receive only one hour's worth of sleep when the reality is, everyone needs 6-8 hours. Kat is right about mania. Unless you're a rapid cycler (which is rare for people who have bipolar), mania usually lasts 7 days or more. I'd also like... (63 replies)

... I was diagnosed with atypical bipolar the day my old pdoc evaluated me (first appointment). My PTSD was diagnosed the week after I told my tdoc about the 4 traumas I experienced from age 7-18. He said he knew I had PTSD the day I told him about my traumas, but since I didn't ask whether or not I had PTSD, he didn't mention it to me until the following week. (63 replies)

... By the way reading up on the criteria for bipolar 2 disorder I don't think that I would meet that criteria. I think that the criteria for bipolar 1 is more accurate but ofcourse its up to the pdoc. ... (63 replies)

... I would demand an answer. It seems strange that your pdoc couldn't even tell you what he suspects you might have. Usually if a pdoc thinks you have a mood disorder, he would say something like, "I think you have major depressive disorder or bipolar, but I need to evaluate you further to make a final determination." If you experience mania, you're definitely not schizophrenic.... (63 replies)

... I only get psychotic when I'm either in a normal mood or am depressed. So I suppose a diagnosis of schizoaffective might be pushing it and that it could just be bipolar 1 with psychotic features. Who knows anyways its so early to tell. I haven't even been psychotic for 4 weekks now. Maybe this will all go away. ... (63 replies)

... Ben, I just saw your post which said that your pdoc thinks you may have schizoaffective disorder. I'm not a pdoc, but I'm confused by that since people with schizoaffective hear voices when they're manic or depressed as well as when they're in a normal mood state. I wonder if you don't have bipolar 1 with psychotic features or atypical bipolar since people with these... (63 replies)

... Were not sure yet actually. Thats why I only put down psychosis. My pdoc thinks it could be schizoaffective disorder. There is definitly some mood disorder aspect to it but I never get psychotic when I'm manic though so it couldn't be atypical bipolar. To be honest my pdoc isn't totally 100% sure about what to diagnose yet. I haven't been diagnosed with anything yet. Hopefully... (63 replies)

... I was wondering if my depression issues could be a result of lack of sleep instead of me being classicaly bipolar. I have read where lack of darkness when falling asleep can lead to an upset mood because even if there is a light as low as a nightlight in the room it can interrupt hormone release in persons (melatonin) and cause depression due to the fact the body's clock is...
