... i never understood the surgery thing...i had hernia surgery when i was 25. was nervous as hell, not on meds and BP was 170/90 or something...they didn't care. can't the surgeon just give you a sedative before hand? i'm sure there is a reason they won't operate...i just don't know what it is. if you are losing a lot of blood i figure high bp is actually a good thing in that... ... from what the docs always told me ,,, a good time to get concerned is when the top hits 160 or the bottom goes over 90,,, last visit to my doc mine was 173/129, he reacted needless to say, mine never ever ran high till i got hurt, now it never seems to amaze me. i walk in and they freak out. they up my medicine and after a few months i walk in and they freak out again.... ... Thanks, Bethsheba. I never had high blood pressure until my mid-40s. Then it started creeping up steadily. I never reached a critical level (depending on how you judge that) but I had average readings of 165/90-95 and sometimes up to 170+ over 100+. ... Here is the problem with that logic based on a little experiment I did. I started exercising for about 3 minutes really vigorously (running on a treadmill). I took my blood pressure and it was 167/95. I continued to exercise another 10 minutes, stopped and took it again, it was 111/68. It has an inital spike and then gets below normal.
