Thank you for the suggestions. I do keep checking with him about muscle pain and weakness. So far, so good. I'm hoping that when he gets re-checked in a few weeks at least one of these drugs can be eliminated. I'm always nervous about the drugs. I'm hoping for the best.
Kate,

You do realize, I'm sure, that your husband does have a very serious triglyceride problem. I'm sure the doctor has him on Tricor due to the risk of pancreatitis - which is serious - from the extremely high trig level.

The Tricor is more effective at reducing the triglycerides than the Vytorin is.

I don't know what his cholesterol levels were, but the total had to be high with a trig level like that - which is probably why he's also on Vytorin.

If he drops his calories, and especially lowers carbs and alcohol (if he drinks), he should be able to lower the triglyceride level quickly. Trigs respond fairly quickly to dietary changes.

Apropos of nothing:

I had two Manhattans an hour before a blood draw several years ago...I got a triglyceride of over 900. (My normal is always around 100.)
What I gleaned from this tidbit is that alcohol can cause triglycerides to ZOOOM short term.
