High Cholesterol Message Board

High Cholesterol Board Index

I have been on Zocor a month. My non-fasting blood test showed I had a triglyceride level of 1029 (yes, not a typo) although my total cholesterol is 180. HDL and LDL were not measured because of the extremely high tri level. Needless to say, this freaked me out! I had a diverticulitis flare-up after going heavy on fresh fruits, veggies, etc., after worrying about lowering the triglycerides, and am seeing a surgeon this Thursday about that. I called the doctor today because my left arm has become quite sore, like I have been out mowing or weed whacking for the first time in the spring! Has been growing worse over the last few days, and I have not done anything to bring it on, so I was of course worried about the zocor. Even more worried when I am reading that a normal initial dose is 5-10 mg or so. So I pull out my pills and see that they are 80 mg!! Isn't that a bit much, considering that my cholesterol isn't even that high, just the triglycerides? Anyway, called the doc, have stopped the medicine and am going for blood work before seeing her and figuring out what to do from here. This has been on the back burner for me, considering the more pressing problem with the acute diverticulitis attack. At least it was until the sore arm! I am not giving up on watching the diet, etc., and I already take cinnamon supplements for my diabetes, which I know can also elevate triglycerides. Just don't really know where to go from here. Watching fiber intake to keep the intestines calm, trying to avoid cholesterol, fat and sugar for diabetes and the triglycerides...starting to wonder what there is LEFT to eat, and what my most pressing concern really is.
