Has anyone lowered their cholesterol by taking Red Yeast Rice Extract? If so, please explain details to me.
Thanks.
I take this, along with a special diet. The diet I'm on allows for sugar once a day, no fake sugars, and nothing sweet all day. Less Coffee also helps lower Cholesterol. I've cut back to 2cups a day. Shouldn't have any really. I do the Carbohydrate's addict diet, I found the book at the library and this diet does work well. They have a revised addition out, you'd need to look for that if your willing to try it. Also you don't want to be drinking a lot of alcohol with taking red yeast rise. I have one beer with my evening reward meal. The Red Yeast Rice I'm on says I can take 1200mg a day, last time I did the diet and took this stuff I only took half of that. Oatmeal every other day helps too, it acts like a soap in the body. The last time (about 4or5yrs ago) when I went on this diet regime I went from a cholesterol total of 329, (and all my numbers in the lipid panel were bad) to 196 in 6weeks with all numbers much improved. This time around my cholesterol isn't as high but I'm also older and the weight is coming off slower, I'm on week 8, Blood pressure is way down and I haven't had the cholesterol checked yet. I bet it is much better also, I'll be checking it in July.
Last visit (8weeks ago)it was at 273 and a blood pressure reading of 145/95.....like I said, blood pressure is better already. Good luck. Diana
jellybean3009,

I'll let you know in about one week. I go for my annual physical next week and get my blood drawn this Friday. I am trying taffyboyo's recipe for 8 weeks to see if it works for me. Here it is:

Qty 1, 600 mg. tab of Nature's Plus Extended Release RYR at bedtime.
100 mg. of CoQ10 (a must when taking any type of statin, even natural)
600 mg. EPA/400 mg. DHA good quality fish oil (4 softgels for me)
Qty 1, 6,250 mcg. of Natural factors Allicin garlic.

In addition to the above each day, I take a good multi-vitamin, 750 mg. of immediate release niacin, extra calcium/magnesium and minimum of 1,500 mg. of Vitamin C with L-Lysine and L-Proline.

Yes, please let me know your results.
Thanks!
I did and it worked really well.
I've also changed my diet and exercise 5 days a week. I've lost 36 lbs and my naturopath has taken me off the red yeast rice and switched me to niacin. She feels that this along with my diet and exercise will keep my numbers good.

Hi BouBou,

Sorry to hear that you are off the RYR.
I think you will find it hard to maintain your LDL and TC figures just by moving to Niacin. I'll cross my fingers for you though.
Glad you took my advice and that it worked for you.

Taffyboyo.
Found out a new bit of information with Red Yeast Rice. You should also have some CoQ10 if your taking it. Can't remember what the lady said exactly as I was so tired when I talked to her, but she did say it was an important nutrient to take with RYR. She said it doesn't have to be a lot, just get some in something. I checked all my vit. bottles and it isn't in any of them, I will have to get some. This lady I talked to is very knowledgeable with all the vit. and herbs. Just thought I'd pass on this information to everyone here. Diana

Whoops, sorry. Guess I'll need to find that information again and see what I can do. Actually any one could look it up. I'm going to get some CoQ10 and start talking it for sure though.
drs;

If you read some of Taffyboyo's previous posts, the RYR product he recommends actually comes with CoQ10 (100 mg.) already in it. It's not cheap but your good health without prescription meds has got to be worth something, right?
I've got this big ole bottle of RYR right now, too spendy to just chuck it out, will add the coQ10 for now and will look for the other kind when I run out of this one. Thanks Mayor.
I picked up some Milk thistle to go with the rest of all this stuff, hope it protects the liver. Took the first dose of the coQ10 today.
