daily dose of omega 3 to lower triglycerides
daily dose of omega 3 to lower triglycerides
Hi Kathi and welcome.

One can reduce triglyceride's by 'upto' 66% using a good quality Omega3 fish oil, which must contain a minimum of 600mg EPA and 400mg DHA. These levels can be achieved from 2 or 3 gms total O3 fish oil. One can also get a significant reduction with Allicin. Combined, cannot be beaten.

i have Omega 3 900mg

i read so many different suggestions on dosage that it is confusing. I just got my lab back and my Tri's were 189 and my bad was 158. just wanting to make sure besides exercise and cutting out fats that I am taking the right dosage. Thank you for your quick response
I am also wondering if the dose of 1 a day is strong enough to lower my levels given the mgs I posted

I presume these are "GNC Triple Strength Fish Oil".

Take 2 a day Kathie, 1 x morning and 1 x night to give you the required DHA for your Trig's.

you are correct, they are GNC Triple Strength. I appreciate your help on dosage. I have been killing myself trying to find the right dosage as my Dr is unavailable at the moment. Also, I see you have a little experience in lowering levels with different methods, please let me know what worked well to lower tri's and chol. Thanks so much.....

No problem. The following has worked for many people I know, and for several members of this board who were serious enough to try an alternative approach to statins.

Daily, two to three months. Blood test....Surprise.

Qty (1) 600 mg. tab of Nature's Plus Extended Release Red yeast rice with food (evening)
Qty (1) 100 mg. softgel of CoQ10 (This will reduce BP, so monitor after 1-2 months)
Minimum of 600 mg. EPA/400 mg. DHA fish oil capsules (Usually 2-3 gms./day.)
Qty (1) Garlic factors 6,250 mcg of garlic allicin.

Only one drawback, your HDL will be lowered by 2-8 mg/dl. If you have a reading of =>40mg/dl after the 2-3 months, no worries. If it is lower, increase the allicin to 2 tabs a day, maybe add oatbran to your cereal bowl, walk more and go for a less fatty diet.

I was taking 3gms of Omega 3 for months with little change so my dr. told me to raise the level. He changed it to 5gms for the past 3 months and I'm getting tested again next week. I'll post the results
