As niacin will cause a shift from small particles to larger particles, I would highly recommend increasing this to 1000mg, then 1250mg. Then retest after 8 - 12 weeks. I'm not a sugar lover, but do tend to like my carbs. Your VLDL is your very low density level, and it's range I believe is 0-30, mine was 29. While I tend not to concern myself with total cholesterol, I remain far more focused on doing whatever I can to keep my HDL as high as possible, and keeping my triglycerides well under 100.
