Niacin Studies
Jan 22, 2007
... Lenin, Did you up your dose of slo-niacin to 750 mg? I've read on the bottle that the 500 mg can be split at the score line so no need to buy the 750 if I decide to up my dose. One concern that you've expressed before is a tripled approach (Zocor + Zetia + Niacin). I need to do some research on that one before deciding. One of the Slo-Niacin studies was a triple (niacin... ... Thanks for the comments folks. There seems to be much speculation on niacin hexanicotinate and its effect on Lp(a). My Lp(a) was 15 by the VAP method (about equal to 30 to 45 with the commonly used method). After being on NHN for 6 months my Lp(a) was 15 by the commonly used method. If I get an extra $150, I might get another VAP. My doctor said I should keep my ldl... (6 replies)
... I didn't see it, before and after. Better be careful with that combination, RYR is a natural statin, and behaves like a statin. Statins and niacin don't go well together. You're getting your cholesterol awfully low. There was nothing wrong with you HDL and LDL numbers before. ... (6 replies)

... U to take the Lipitor if the RYR is working, but oh yeah, he can't write a prescription for RYR. Gee, with numbers as low as U have, I wonder if U just took the Zetia and Niacin would be enough? ... (6 replies)
... This dosage of niacin pulled it right into range. He tried to get me to take Lipitor in place of the red yeast rice..... ... (6 replies)
... Man, those numbers are low, great HDL though. Is your dr. aware U are taking all these things together, as it almost looks like overkill. JMHO (6 replies)
... Seems to be a winning combo.....last ldl was 94 and hdl was 61 without zetia. Zetia seems to work with no side effects. ... (6 replies)

... Starting to see results of taking immediate release niacin. It has been slowly climbing over the last three yrs. (when i started taking it) T.C. 156 LDL 85 HDL 52 TRIS 99 ratio 3 I've been taking 3500mg daily (sometimes up to 6000mg). Niacin has been the only thing that has raised my HDL up. Excercise, diet, weight loss did nothing. Statins have lowered my LDL and total... (1 replies)
... I just tried Niaspan on top of my Crestor and Zetia to see if I could get my HDL numbers up some. Well I tried the 500 mg for about two weeks and I had to stop. My fasting sugar numbers went up about 30 points. ... (3 replies)
... Yeppers... perfectly safe. Infact, Zetia is most often prescribed together with statins. ... (7 replies)
... Lord Taff, I personally experienced cardiac arythmia while on Niacin - and when I stopped it the arythmias went away. I was taking 750 mg Inositol Hexanicotinate. HubbleRules  (12 replies)
... There are no issues with immediate release niacin. It is the benchmark of niacin therapy. It's not in wide use because most can't tollerate the flushing... not because it has been proven harmful. ... (12 replies)
... That is the same as my Doctor advised. He said I would have no issues with 2,000mg immediate release besides the flushing . I talked to him about this and he told me not to worry about any other side effects. What he did say however is to stay away from Slo-Niacin. When I began my Niacin therapy I asked him about Slo-Niacin and he said he would not allow me to take it.... (12 replies)
... above 2000 mg has definitely been associated with the Liver damage potential... but you are absolutely wrong to lump Niaspan... or immediate release niacin for that matter... ... (12 replies)
... This is of great concern to me at the present time. Since August my Doctor has me taking 2,000mg immediate release Niacin at bed time. ... (12 replies)
... One patient who took 5 x 500mg niacin over a 48 hour period was unresponsive for several minutes. ... (12 replies)
... Can one take slo niacin with the Zetia? ... (1 replies)
... Niaspan is NOT a statin. It is vitamin B3... also known as niacin. It's a water soluble vitamin... you pee out what your body can't use. It's really more of a prescription supplement than a medication, per say. The side effects are not muscle aches. It can cause flushing in some people but with enough patience, you can get past that. You will get the least flushing... (7 replies)
Zetia question?
Aug 30, 2007
... First of all, mom could benefit from a higher HDL, and Zetia isn't an HDL raiser. ... (6 replies)
... onsider if you want to stay the course with statins, like Phavachol and Lipitor, both of which I have tried for a couple years each. I certainly wouldn't start Zetia before trying the other statins first to see if they are tollerated better. ... (5 replies)
