Hi Ktee uk...I'm not sure if anyone's answered your question about coffee grounds (I didn't see one in the previous posts). But coffee grounds are usually referred to be contained in vomit rather than stool. "Coffee ground emesis", as it's called, happens when there is bleeding in the stomach (usually from an ulcer), the blood is partially digested, and when the person vomits, it looks like there are black coffee grounds in the vomitus.

I'm sure you already know that when this bleeding (from the stomach, esophagus or instestine) goes all the way through the GI tract, it comes out as darkly red coloured stool or black stool.

Thanks Butterfly
I had only seen it referred to when it comes out the other end.
I have heard of this condition before, I am in nursing school and going into my third year....i realise that I am not a doctor, but I am hoping that my information will help, and possibly send you in the right direction for treating this. The appearance of these "coffee ground like" stools are an indicator of bleeding that occurs higher in the digestive system. When this happens, the stools that you are seeing have the appearance of a "coffee ground" stool (you are actually seeing blood).I hope that this helps you.....good luck!
