... Just getting 5FU and Leucovorin is considered a "lighter chemo regimen." Most oncs in the US add another agent which really cause the bad side effects. Don't freak that you are only on the 5FU, many have great success. And this has been the only treatment for colorectal cancer until a few years ago. ... (16 replies)
... that sounds like positive news! that's great that his lungs are clean. after his surgery, the "standard" (or so i've heard) is the FOLFOX cocktail (5-FU, Leucovorin, and Oxaliplatin). my dad is also getting a couple others, but the side effects from those are generally: fever, diarrhea or constipation, neuropathy (tingling in fingers and toes/ sensitivity to cold and heat),... ... ifferent treatments I can absolutely relate to what you are saying. My father was dx'd with stage 3c colon cancer in April of this year. He was resected, found a 5 cm tumor and 7 of 13 involved nodes. He had a 27 cm incision and began chemo at the end of June 2004. My world literally turned upside down. ... (302 replies)

... Hi there Can only tell what i know in relation to husbands treatments. He had bowel resection first then 3 month of 5fu/oxalitplatin/folonic acid then liver resection, then one month pevlic radiotherapy c/w 5fu and then a further 3 months 5fu/oxaliplatin/folonic acid. The majority opinion of the medical team was that the first 3 months of chemo would shrink the liver... (136 replies)
