... re not following up with regular checks for a 5 year period. I wonder if you should or could get a second opinion on that question. It is my understanding that a CEA Blood test should be done every three months and a colonoscopy every couple of years, maybe 1, then 2 and finally at the five year time. ... (31 replies)
... Hi October, I can definitely tell you that life does return to normal. I am now 65, and had my surgery and cancer when I was 60. I was reasonable fit and active for my age. I went to the gym on a regular schedule, and still do. I think I had about 8 inches of colon removed with a stage 2 tumor. With your cea count being very good and it seems like it had only begun to spread... (31 replies)

... ch was wonderful news. One of the lymph nodes was significantly smaller and several of the "black spots" in his liver has shrunk. The only puzzling news was his CEA count. The CT scan was the best one we had seen since treatment started yet the CEA continued to go up a bit. He had a CEA of 2562 last Dec. ... (3 replies)
... Well, the insurance company has denied half the tests ordered for my husband. He has had bloodwork taken (finally getting the CEA count, among other tests) but they only approved the CT scan with contrast. His oncologist apparently accepted that, so I'm hoping that means that he feels confident that he can get a realistic "picture" of any progression/spread of the disease... (2 replies)

... Read my posts. Re; Kaiser, I am in that same system in Or. They have a team of docs, get another doctor. I have found KP to be fantastic, although there some really stupid things that docs and nurses did when this all began. I had 7 mets last year, one very large one, I am down to one tiny spot, to small to tell if its cancer or not. Peace and healing. People beat... (11 replies)

... I have found out that there is also a scan that combines both the CT and PET scan technoligies. Its called a CT/PET scan and is the latest and best test for accurate cancer test results. I dont know if my health care provider has this new machine yet. I have an HMO (Kaiser Permanente) San Diego area. I understand that they get the results back much quickier also. I will be... ... Hi Glenn, I say ditto for the other responses. I would definitely request a PET scan, and even go to another place that may not have as long a waiting list. I've never had one myself, but I sure would feel better if I did and everything was clear. Then you can rest easier. Just MHO. B.A.Mc. (11 replies)

... Hi Glenn, firstly, great news on a clean colonscopy! That is wonderful. So you could watch everything but not feel any discomfort? A year after surgery, my husband had two spots show up on the liver which concerned them and we had to go to the US for a PET scan, which showed no malignancy. From that time, July 2004, there had been no change in those spots up until February of... (11 replies)

... Hi All, I have some updated news to share. I had another CT scan done on 8/10 and another colonoscopy done on 8/15. The CT scan came back clean with the exception of two "SPOTS" on my liver. This was my second CT scan. The first CT scan also showed two "spots" on my liver( 8 months ago) however this time my oncoligst informs me that one of the spots is slightly larger.... (11 replies)

... Hi Glenn, I would definitely request a PET scan. I talked to a man who had had both CT and PET. CT scan did not show any new tumors, but PET scan did show a new one on his adrenal gland near the kidney. It was removed and he is fine now. bamc (11 replies)

... Thanks Kathy and Cats, I was able to get my HMO to get me in sooner for a CT Scan, now going on 8/10 and the colonoscopy on 8/15. So I will be able to get these test done before my work needs me back. One day at a time right? I will share the results when I get them. HMO takes awhile for the ct results. I have started another thread about alternative treatments, hope... (11 replies)

... Glenn, Sorry for your diagnosis and all the ups and downs...I know how that feels! My advice to you would be to work w/your employer to get some time off to take care of your health! Don't wait! Even if this is a slow moving cancer I would think it is best to get this all taken care of NOW...ASAP not only for your best chance of physical health, but for your mental health... (11 replies)
