... cats, I had mine taken out earlier this year (May). I did not have an infection, but it did take several months before I could touch it without noticing pain. When it was installed, I was mostly put under, when they took it out, I was wide awake. That was my choice ( I would be able to leave the hospital earlier without being put under). ... Hi, I have no idea how it got infected. I guess when you are on TPN you are at higher risk for infection - plus being in the hospital for 26 of the last 60 days or so doesn't help. It is still swollen and sore, but I suppose that is to be expected with all the cutting and tugging they did. I just feel so lucky that I didn't go into some kind of septic shock or... (14 replies)

... hey called today to say that my blood cultures were positive so I am going on a 10 day cycle of Levaquin. I am glad I went and got it taken out when I did!! My port was put in Aug 18, 2005. Thankfully it lasted through chemo and TPN! ... (14 replies)

... He made an appt yesterday and went to the surgeon today that put it in and the Doc was out on an emergency call!!! No one even looked at it! Now I wish that I went with him!!
