Wondering if anyone is still keep up with this thread. I have been searching EVERYWHERE online for answers to this excruciating pain I've been in and wonder if this is it. I am truley losing my mind and have been to the point where you really wonder if you are going to od on pain killers or wishing tomorrow was your last day. I hate to say it, but I really feel that we can only stand so much. My faith has been the only thing getting me through this..but I feel like I'm losing this battle. Sorry for the rant, but it's 5am and I still have not slept due to the pain, despite pain meds and no sleep yesterday.

This will probably be long, but would appreciate any input...
I've always had dental issues as I was not fortunate enough to go to the dentist often as a child. Now at 26, I have been trying to catch up with things, but I feel like I am getting no where. I've had a number of root canals over the years. Last year, I had a horrible infection which lead to a root canal in #7 I believe it is. Once, I had the crown placed, I would get twinges of pain off and on, but nothing serious. That tooth bothered me for yearssss, so it was a relief to finally have it over with, although I hated that it was one of my front teeth.
Jump to about 2months ago...I started having pain in that tooth and my front tooth next to it. I started taking otc pain meds thinking it would clear up..wrong!! It got worse and worse. I thought I had an absess and was started on Clindamycin, which was then changed to a z-pack. I saw an endodontist who said he could not find anything wrong. The pain then spread to the whole upper right side. I was told to see a general dentist..ok, more money and x-rays only to be told of the probs I already knew I have going on, but that the pain I was experiencing was from my tooth hitting my lower tooth since my teeth recently shifted. The dentist filed down the tooth a bit..didn't help.
I then went back to where I grew up, to the endondontist I've always trusted..once again, he couldn't find anything on x-ray,etc..more money!! I then saw ANOTHER general dentist who did a pretty thourough evaluation of my whole mouth, and MORE x-rays. She too, could not find the source of the pain. She suggested I see an ENT for sinus issues. The pain was a little better at this point, but still bad. I did have a tooth..number 5, I believe, that had a very deep cavity in it for yrs that didn't cause pain but needed a root canal. I figured, on the off chance that somehow it was referred pain, that I would go ahead while I was home and get it root canaled.
Ok, so a few days later, I get the root canal. I left the office in horrible pain, which has never happened to me with my other root canals. That night, I almost lost my mind because the WHOLE right side of my mouth both upper and lower was THROBBING beyond belief..no pain meds, ice, anything would relieve it. I was placed on another round of Clindamycin as well.
THEN..the next morning..NO PAIN!!! I was thrilled and thought, we had found it and it was over. The next 3days I was so happy and relieved.
That was short lived! On our 6hr trip back to where we live, the pain kicked up again. It got worse and worse. After 2 days, I couldn't take it anymore and went to a primary doc who was a complete joke. Then I wound up in the ER. I was given IV morphine which didn't touch it. The only thing that seemed to help was ice directly on my mouth, which the docs freaked out about. I finally convinced them to do a CT...supposedly normal. Blood work..normal...panaramic x-ray..normal despite the probs I was already aware of. I was discharged with a level 10 pain with scripts for yet again ANOTHER round of Clindamycin and morphine and tylenol 3. I have Multiple Sclerosis, so the ER dentist was blaming that, and the nuerologists there were blaming it on dental issues!
My husband stopped into my nuerologist while I was leaving the hospital. The nurse prac said it was trigeminal nueralgia. I was started on Tegretol and more tylenol 3 and 800mg Ibprofen. I drugged myself for a few days with no relief. While I had been in the ER, I started having some electric shock type pains throughout diff teeth on both sides..but this was NOT present before. I believe that is why she is saying it is trigeminal nueralgia.
After a week or so, my tegretol was then increased...I would sleep, wake up for meds every 3hrs and then go right back to sleep.
I then finally was able to get into an ENT. She sprayed numbing stuff down my throat..no relief, just a numb throat. Then she stuff gauze with numbing stuff so far up my nose you couldn't see it...I then had some relief in my top teeth, but only because the teeth went numb...whatever works though right? She reviewed the ct from the ER and said that I had moderate sinus disease which I knew, a deviated septum, and a bone spur that could possibly be pressing a nerve and causing this pain or at least contributing.
So...MORE antibiotics. I was started on generic Biaxin, a steroid nasal spray, and she wanted me on prednisone. Due to my MS, I can not take oral steroids (long story)...I then had a 3T MRI for my MS...was told that one of my new lesions was close to the trigeminal nerve and could be causing this. So, after speaking my the nurse prac at my neuro's, I was started on IV Steroids for 5 days to help with the lesions and also for the sinus stuff. I finished the IV Steroids 2 days ago and have been in MORE pain. The electric shock type pain is not very frequent..that, I do believe could have something to do with the trigeminal nerve. It is this other constant pain that I can't figure out and losing my mind over!! I have already been through enough this year losing my child, I really can't take anymore and am at my wits end but trying not to give up.

SOOO sorry for this long post, but can anyone tell me if this sounds like a jaw infection?? Due to my medical history, I know things are more complicated than some people, but there has to be an answer somewhere. I need dental work done, but was told not to get anything done for at least a month by the neuro..but I'm afraid to have anything anyways. The thing I keep coming back to is why would that root canal relieve all the pain for a few days?!!! By the way, the damn resident in the ER cracked that tooth by banging on it...which now I guess will need to be pulled, but don't think the pain is stemming from that, as it was there before the root canal.

ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED!!!!!!!! I can't live like this.
