Thanks for the comments. I've been away from the computer for a while and am just now catching up. I will try your suggestions and see what happens. As far as medications, I have been on Metformin for almost a year and my doctor has recently added Actos along with it. My glucose levels remain around 170 in the morning, except for one morning after I had 3 beers the night before. That morning it was 157, so I thought it was coming down. Has anyone else experienced a glucose-lowering effect with beer? A friend who also has diabetes said she had heard that the carbohydrates in beer affect glucose levels differently than other carbohydrates.
Alcohol can lower blood sugar before the carbs in the alcohol (like in beer) can bring it back up, so you should be careful about going low when you drink. Of course it is not a "fix" to keep your sugar lower. As I said before - make sure you enjoy your life, so don't worry about having a beer on occasion or once in a while (again, not too often) having a yummy dessert.

The addition of the Actos should help to bring down your glucose levels. Do you know what your a1c is? The fasting of 170 isn't great, but it's not that bad either.

Best of luck to you and welcome to our little community. I look forward to hearing from you. While you may not have a lot of diabetes experience, I'm sure you've got a lot of other experience that will be a great addition here.
