... The problem with high GI carbs like chips is that they are addictive. Eating them causes the cravings you are getting. And, while reducing trans fats is good, eating low-fat varieties, if anything, makes the cravings worse (reducing the amount of fat effectively increases the glycemic index). You can stop the cravings by switching to non-carb snacks, like cheese and nuts.

Nutritional vaulue - don't even go there. Of course there's no nutritional value.
Satisfaction level - now that's where they get you, they taste so good.
Low Fat talking - They are evil. Pretzels, popcorn, and rice cakes are a better choice.

... If you would like to try some healthy "chips" try Baked Lays. They a large variety of in Canada - Doritos, Tostitos, Original Flavor and I think Sour Cream and Onion. Pretzels are also a good healthy snack - I buy Organic ones that have wholewheat flour. Popcorn is also healthy - good fibre and high in iron.

... Thanks for the advice! That makes me feel a lot better about carbs. I tend to eat brown rice, whole wheat bread, fruits, vegetables, and soy pretzels - not the "bad" refined carbs...but I'm still hesitant to have rice with dinner if I had a big sandwich for lunch - even if it IS whole wheat bread and brown rice.
