... And i think they dont do the amnio first because its intrusive and more painful. Plus they have to do the us to figure out where the baby is so they dont poke it, and other stuff. ... (28 replies)

... I agree that you should not worry. My quad screen showed a 2 in 3 chance of baby having Trisomy 18 and I couldn't get in for an ultrasound/amnio for 4 weeks! 4 weeks of agony and hysteria only to show (with 99% accurate amnio) that baby is chromosomally normal. These tests have a very high false positive rate and there is no sense worrying until you have the Level 2 Ultrasound... (28 replies)

Amnio or Not?

... When my doctor's office called me, they specifically mentioned Down's, so I'm assuming that there are certain levels that would indicate certain defects? I know that I can pretty much rule out two of the other reasons this test may come back falsely positive: gestational age and twins. I'm absolutely positive of when I conceived. My LMP was December 11; hubby and I hadn't had... (28 replies)

... It usually recommended for women who will be age 35+ when they give birth, or if there is some other health history that would call for it. The protocol is to do the triple/quad screening via blood work first, then if there are abnormalities showing there they do a level 2 ultrasound that gives them more info on the exact age and size of the baby. This is important since the... (28 replies)
