Sickly for 3 months
Oct 13, 2010
Hey all,

First I am a 29 year old asthmatic male. I am taking advair 250/50 2x a day and salbutamol (apo-salvent) when needed. I also have chronically enlarged turbinates which were unresponsive to avamyst. I am allergic to cats and dogs which I both of and I think I may have developed a seasonal allergy this fall.

1) Starting in mid July I got a cold or a flu. I got the typical symptoms it lasted about 5 days and cleared up. I thought everything was fine but I have been intermittently sick ever since.

2) 4 weeks later I was out having coffee and noticed my throat tightening up. I went home, rested, and the next day I had a sore throat and intense post nasal drip. I had to swallow big globs every 5 seconds. This lasted for about 3 days.

3) about 2 weeks after that I was again not feeling well, not as bad as before but the sore throat and post nasal drip returned. I also developed a light headache and I felt a bit spaced out. This lasted a week or so but the headache remained.

4) On labor day weekend the sore throat and post nasal drip returned. My tonsils swelled up quite large and it hurt to swallow. The headache got a bit more severe and I felt really foggy. I remember not being able to focus on much when trying to watch TV. The sore throat and tonsils subsided within 2 days but the headache remained. I went to the doctor who said that my tonsils were not swollen (which he said is good as it shows my immune system is strong) and none of my glands are swollen. He did say that base don the look of my mouth (blistering I think it was) that I had a viral infection and I just had to wait it out.

5) A couple of weeks on the foggy headache was still there (mostly everyday) and i would get on again, off again sore throats when swallowing. I would get it for a day or two, then it would go for a day or two, then return. I went back to the doctor who said it was still a viral infection but it was clearing.

6) a few week on, early October, I got sick again. The sore throat and post nasal drip returned and I got a terrible throbbing pain on the right side of my face and head. I also got chest congestion and was coughing up a very light yellow sputum. I went to another doctor and he told me that I was suffering from a viral infection. Note: when I developed this bout of sickness I was working with a guy who turned out to have the flu. He had also given it to his wife and another co-worker. Maybe I picked up another virus.

Since that time I have been dealing with the foggy headache and re-current sore throats. From my research it would seem that what I am suffering from is chronic sinusitis. I brought this up to the doctor and all he said was that it is hard to diagnose....should I pressure to doctor to give me an antibiotic for sinusitis just to see if it helps

I have been irrigating my nose with a waterpik nasal irrigator and saline solution. I generally get some light yellow colored mucus or snot every time i use it which is 2x a day. I have also tried the hydrogen peroxide nasal irrigation. I have done it 2x. The first time I got a couple large masses of yellowish gunk out. The second time I got one big lump of yellowish gunk mixed with blood.

Do you think I am on the right track here

any insights are appreciated!

Ok.... First of all i saw that you use Advair 250/50 Diskus inhaler.... You have probably been told to rinse after each dose. Most use it 2x per day. I can't stress enough that you rinse, gargle and spit out everytime you use this product or and other similar product. Failure to do so would add another illness to worry about. Your vocal cords will get infected and get inflated causing a polyp to develop in which you will experience hoarseness. It happened to me so be very carefull.

On the nasal issue i would urge you to stay away from all these salt solutions and go to walgreens or rite aid and get a box of NeilMed Sinus Rinse The Box will say to do the rinse 2x per day but I do it 3x. You will agree with me how diffrent you will feel after every rinse. Also get MucinexD take 2 tabs every 12 Hours. This clears Nasal/Sinus Congestion and Thins and Loosens Mucus.

Do it As Soon as Possible and you will thank me.............
Andy
