PTK and RCE
Mar 25, 2012
Hi,

Although new to here, I'm not new to RCE. It started in my left eye back in the 80's. The 80's were fun, except for that!

I had my left eye scraped, about 6 times, and then had the puncture done about 3 times. So since the early 90's it's been good. I use Muro 128 every night and feel I should own shares in B&L for the amount I've spent.

Starting in January of this year, I started getting erosion's in my right eye. No trauma occurred as it did with my left eye.

I got my 3rd major tear in March (so a major teat every 3 weeks) I found a doc that said I should get PTK and he did it in a matter of days. That was last Thursday (or 4 days ago) I noticed yesterday that my right eye, the ptk eye, is a blurry/hazy. How long does it take for that to clear?

PTK was easy, compared to scrapings or puncture. Of course the BCL's are a major improvement over the last 23 years!

Cheers,
Meg

Hi There.

Oh dear...what's going on? How often does your eye get erosions? One doctor I recently just had didn't want me to do the PTK...he wanted me to suffer more, I guess (or so I felt) But with my prior history with my left eye, and my right eye was tearing without prior trauma...I ended up in the emergency ward for the 3rd time in 9 weeks....and I saw the on-call eye-doc...who just happened to do PTK. I just went for it.

It's only been about 2 weeks, but so far so good. It a bit blurry if I'm tired..but it's getting better.

What does your eye doc say? I can't recommend it, and I can't not recommend it....it depends on your situation. Where is is ripping..over your line of sight? What other procedures have they tried?

I wish all the best....It's hard enough with a baby...glad I had my babies between my eye erosions!

I have only really had minor/small erosions since having the bandage contact lens in its just I am hoping that it heals but then they will want to take the lens out and then I will be so scared of it coming back and being back to square one, from what Ive read the PTK is the best way of getting rid of it !! it has alreadly taken up so much of my time already and the anxiety has been awful.

this is the only treatment ive tried was using lubrication for weeks but that didnt work this bandage lens was next on the list to try but I am thinking if it diesnt work I migh just push for the PTK the other things sound a waste of time!

Thanks

I've read that PTK works for most people...but, It hasn't resolved my RCE. I've had PTK for both eyes in Feb 2011 and then again on one eye at a time in Feb and April 2012. I am still having intermittent erosions. It's very frustrating. I'm wondering if there are any newer treatments......I feel like I've tried them all....from punctual plugs, ointments, drops, debridement, PTK, bandage contacts.....
