I went to my eye doctor for something that sounds similar to this. He diagnosed me with "Pingecula". He said usually people develop this from sun exposure. He gave me some eye drops and that was it. I am not sure if your sister-in-law has the same thing but maybe you could research pingecula.:) (1 replies)
... Hi Holland...well you said your laser surgeon told you you have sun damage in your eyes...I'm assuming that's in the form of Pingecula or Pteryguim. These are synonymous terms except for Pteryguim means the sun damage or Pingecula is covering the cornea...sometimes affecting vision. ... (8 replies)
... Well, maybe this info will help...good luck P.S you can also look up Pterygium which is the same as pingecula except Pteryguim is usually a little bit larger and is covering or touching surface of the cornea. ... (8 replies)
... white pigment where the veins seem to sprawl out from...if so...my guess would be a pingecula ...also known as pterygium when it's larger. These are harmless lipid like deposits on the eye that form usually from a lot of exposure to the sun... ... (4 replies)
... Is so...some good and bad news. The only way to get rid of a pingecula is with surgery and from what I've heard, there are mixed reviews as far as the appearance of the area post surgery and minimizing the veins. ... (3 replies)
... Hi all!
My first load of Restasis shipped from the US today! Will be interesting to see the effect. I read somewhere that punct plugs might reduce tear production. Seems there are a lot of incorrect and not updated things written about dry eye on some sites. Is this reduced tear prod something any of you have read about or experienced?

... Keep taking the Restasis. With some, it takes time but I think you will see a difference. When I first starting taking Restasis a few years ago, it worked almost immediately (within 4 weeks). Then a doctor took me off of it for awhile due to another problem, and when I went back on it, it has taken me about 5 months now to see a difference.
I have severe dry... (8 replies)
... Hi there Nikijo, and to all other dry eyed ones,
Well, I am on the third month of using Restasis, I have checked a few articles out about Restasis while having Plugs in, but I couldn't find anything specifically written about it. Now I feel a bit optimistic now that you have found out about the newest studies.
I don't feel much difference right now, but I guess I'll have... (8 replies)
... Many studies indicate restasis works better with plugs in place as it has a longer residence in the eye before being drained away, therefore it is absorbed better. (8 replies)
... By the way. Do you know if Restasis contain preservatives? (8 replies)
... Thanks for your answers Backie & Shahara. I appreciate it. I use a lot of food supplements which I think have helped me. I also have started to treat my allergies more. Previously I thought dry eye was the only problem. Have you too experienced a lot of stinging in the eye after inserting the drops Shahara? I will most likely try a 3 month period and see if it helps. Worth... (8 replies)
... Hi there,
I have had terrible dry eyes since 5 years, I also have punctum plugs on my lower ducts and my upper ones are closed too. I am on restasis since 3 months, I will use it for about 10 months, cos Restasis needs a very long time to work, if you don't have the plugs it'll take about 3 months, but in my case I will have to take it for about 10 months.

I have dry eyes and have pinguiculas in both eyes although not too bothersome usually. My dry eyes and symptoms have gotten worse over the course of the last 10 years or so..(I blame computers for a lot of it).
Anyway, I tried Restasis for 2 months and it didn't do much for me. It also burned my eyes terribly after inserting the drops, and the burning lasted for a... (8 replies)
I'm 30y old and have been suffereing from dry eye for 6y but the last 2y my problems have increased substantially.

... I never really felt my eyelids being dry as well from the pinguecula. It was the eye itself. Perhaps you have a dry eye condition in addition to your pingecula that needs attention. Good luck on your trip in the coming days! ... (33 replies)
