... I get that a lot, along with severe dry eyes. But my doctor tells me that the string white stuff (gross, isn't it?) is definitely allergy related. It's also not helped if your eyes are dry. He told me that sometimes doing hot compresses will make the mucus come to the surface, so that may be one way to get it out of your eye. I've pulled out some that are more than an inch... ... It's mucus. If your eyes are dry and/or you have allergies you're going to get it. Use lots and lots of preservative free artificial tears to wash it out. (good products are Bion Tears, Thera Tears, or anything that has no preservative and doesn't claim to "get the red out") Personally I have become an expert at removing these annoying strings from my own eyes. ... I've been getting this stuff recently and don't know why. I think it must be dry eyes or something since it's summer. I also get that if I accidentally put moisturizer or makeup in my eye... it's almost like having a hair in your eye. I think drops would probably help clear that up (though I rarely use them).
