... What you described (the crooked line, rainbow) that's called migraine aura. It's the visual disturbance without the headache (some people get them right before a headache) It usually starts in the center of the vision, maybe you are on the computer and it will blank out one letter in a word, then get bigger and bigger and zig zaggy in rainbow colors.
