... years, but it doesn't happen often and it's usually not that bad. It usually happens when I go to bed, I lie down, lights out, and after a while I start seeing flickering light. It doesn't matter if my eyes are open or closed. It stops after a while, or I have to look at bright light to make it stop. ... (5 replies)
... The image is the same in both eyes I think. I never pay attention to that, all I notice is the annoying fast flashing that is everywhere I can see, so covering my entire visual field. It's a bit hard to know if I have trouble focusing my eyes, when in the dark, and with flashing light. But I don't feel different in any way, no memory or awareness problems.

Machaon you might be right, although I can't find very much about it, and it certainly doesn't look anything like what you find when searching for images of "migraine aura".. But I do assume it's something like this, something not too serious, unless it gets worse.
The thing in the darkness looks more like having some flashing light in the room... (5 replies)

It is nothing to worry about at all, it's sort of an optical illusion. The "dream" state you are talking about.... do you suffer from anxiety? If so, this dream state is called depersonalization. I had it for many years but it did go away. (2 replies)
... Hi everyone. I'm a 17 year old boy and I have some problems. Whenever I spend an extended period of time in a dark setting, and I come out into a lit room (particularly in a white/tan color), when I blink, a split-second after my eyes open, there will be this black flash in my vision. It's only for a split-second... but it's there. It's almost like an inversion of the image... (1 replies)

When I look at certain patterns like oriental carpets, supermarket shelves, rows of white text on black backgrounds they tend to vibrate/shimmer/flicker.
If I change the text around to black on white I don't see it and when I close either eye it goes away.

... Hard to say if that is connected or not - could just be 2 different things. I have that "shaking" (flickering) in the peripheral vision (like a ceiling fan) I use that as an example because once it was happening I thought the ceiling fan was on and it wasn't. That's all due to floaters and the retina. If I described what YOU get, then I don't think the 2 are related. (it's... (1 replies)

... I am a 39 year old male and have been suffering from what I can only describe as 'flickering vision'.
It is a problem that I have when looking at high contrast patterns such as rows of supermarket shelves with stuff on them, oriental rugs, white text on a black background on a computer screen. It feels like the light contrast has to be exactly right for this to occur. It... (4 replies)
