Foot & Ankle Problems Board Index

Hello fellow post-ops :)
It's now almost 7 months since I've had calcaneal osteotomy (with 1 screw) and FDL tendon transfer procedures. I'm back to almost all activities I was doing before the surgery but I'm wondering when the pain in the heel and ankle will finally completely go away. It's not like it's always there but sometimes (depending on how I step or how much activity I had done already) I get a shooting pain in my heel and Achilles tendon. Also the areas around the surgical incisions are still swelling throughout the day and I'm wondering when this will finally subside. The pain I used to have on the bottom of my foot by my arch is gone because I have a new tendon. But the heel and Achilles pain are new and I don't like it. So I'm wondering if this is all normal and when should I expect for it to go away. The same goes for the numbness and general weird feeling in my toes.
Another, probably silly, question I have is: is any woman on this board who has had the procedure able to wear shoes with heels again? I sometimes think that's just not an option anymore. I mean, I don't care too much but it would be nice to be able to do sometimes :)
All the best to everyone here!

I found a change in footwear help with heel and Achilles pain, not numbness that comes and goes for me. It was a struggle to find shoes to wear that did not hurt my foot and ankle. Everyone's foot is different and for me zero drop shoes have worked wonders. I don't think heels are an option for me anymore. I have joked with pt about just wearing shoes that are not sneakers, heels terrify me.
