I am a 40 yr old female who has had bunions on both feet as long as I can remember now over the past year I have struggled with pain in the ball of both feet that has progressively gotten more severe to the point I can't bare to stand on them I tried all the inserts and spent a lot of money on different shoes with no relief I finally went to see the podiatrist who immediately did xrays and said I have very high arches, 3 stress fractures in my left foot and 2 in my right and way more arthritis than he likes seeing in someone my age so put me in a boot for the more severe left foot, wanted me off work starting immediately for 8 weeks & referred me out to the surgeon the following week, the surgeon spent literally 5 min in the room said go to Dicks sporting goods to buy yet another pair of shoe inserts and go on about life no boot, no time off work nothing so now I am so frustrated how do they have 2 completly different treatments?? Doing research on metatarsalgia it is pretty obvious the bunions are what causes my issues so am I wrong in thinking that without correcting the bunions I will just continue to suffer with this problem? It is affecting my quality of life so bad I am to young to not be able to walk please any suggestions

Shoe inserts are the WORST things for you because they weaken the strength you should have in your legs from the hips on down and I speak from experience. I had such flat feet the one of them rolled in and I also had horrible bunions. Had bunion surgery years ago and had I known then what I have learned, I NEVER would have let the surgeon near me. BTW: One of the bunions started coming back. I am no doctor, but can tell you, if you get into some strengthening exercises, it will really help. I use a slant board as well as do a lot of stretching and step on a tennis ball. I, now, have beautiful arches and nice strong ankles. The ankles were very weak before. If your legs are not strong and working in conjunction with your hips and feet, you will have bunions and all sort of problems. Personally, I would run like mad from those two doctors. If you can find a personal trainer, that will help.
