Foot & Ankle Problems Message Board

Foot & Ankle Problems Board Index

Hello to all my bunion surgery friends. I just had my bilateral bunionectomy with tailor bunions shaved this morning. I am so excited to see the end results. I've always had nice thin feet but when the bunions started growing, I couldn't fit into any of my shoes without the excruciating pain that goes along with bunions. Well, this morning, I had my surgery. My feet are wrapped in bandages and I have a partial shoe with built up heels. I was able to walk around with the aid of a walker and I have my wheelchair with elevated leg rests. My pain is at about a 7 but I have percoset and toradol to help out. I really want to go out and finish my christmas shopping today. Fortunately, I have my lovely daughter staying with me and I think she is going to nix that right in the bud, or in the bunions :o)). The surgery took about 2 1/2 hours and the only complication was that I kept 'squirming' around on the OR table. I really can't wait to see my feet but that won't be for another couple weeks. Anyway, I just thought I'd like to keep you posted on how it goes. I don't anticipate any major problems. I had a PLIF done on my back in March and I healed very well and only had to take pain meds for 4 weeks with that and the surgery was very successful. So, for anyone contemplating this surgery (bunionectomy).. I say get very informed, read all you can and question, question, question your doctor. Good luck to all those past, present and future who are going to have this surgery. I also learned so much from this board and I thank you all. So peace be with you during this holiday season. If you have any questions, I will be happy to answer any that I can. Happy trails to your feet! Peace Minx.
