Foot & Ankle Problems Board Index

Hi ToCutOrNotToCut!
I have already posted my story on this board. However, to sum up, I have been to both orthos and pods. My first bunionectomy was done by a pod who screwed me up worse than before. Since then I have consulted with two different orthos that both blew me off, telling me to wear comfortable shoes. They were both highly recomended in my area, and they both ignored my complaints of pain and swelling, not even bothering to do x-rays. I don't know if they just didn't want to fix someone else's screw-up or if they just believe my job is to blame (I'm a hairdresser.). So I decided to try another pod for a different point of view because I just didn't believe that there was nothing that could be done.
The doctor that I am now seeing not only listens to me, but also believes that he can fix my problem. He also commented several times, after looking at my x-rays, that my first surgery was a disaster. He told me that if my foot is not corrected, I will have continued pain and deformity that will only worsen.
Now I will be having my second surgery in two days, and hopefully all this will be over with.
The best advice I can give you is to find a doctor that you like and trust who listens to you. Although I am obviously partial to pods, I really don't think it matters which you choose, as long as they are good. DO NOT hesitate to get a second opinion when surgery is involved, and run from any doctor that seems offended by this. Just follow your instincts.
I do believe that surgery done correctly is worth it. Medicine has come too far for me to believe that a bunion cannot be fixed. Just beware of all the quacks out there. Good luck!
