I'm sorry I didn't respond to your post sooner! I am a year post-op so I don't check these boards as often as I used to.

I do ballet mostly, as well as jazz and lyrical. Just to give you some background, I had a base wedge bunionectomy and osteotomy so I was on crutches for 6 weeks and then walking in an aircast for 4, and in a surgical shoe for another 2-3 weeks.

I think I was able to start dancing again about 6 months post-op. At first it was hard to get my foot into a ballet shoe because I was still a little tender and swollen. I'm guessing you wear heels for ballroom dancing? If so, you're not supposed to wear any heels until the swelling is completely gone. Depending on which type of surgery you had you may be able to start dancing before 6 months. Just take it easy at first and ice your foot afterwards, even if it's not immediately sore or swollen.
