If the swelling or pain gets any worse, you might want to go to the emergency center. Sometimes unexplained swelling can mean cellulitis or a blood clot, and this may or *may not* be related to the ongoing toe pain situation. (i.e. you could have arthritis or gout or some toe bone issue and then a complication of a blood clot etc.)

Not trying to scare you--but unexplained pain and swelling is nothing to fool around with. My niece had unexplained pain and swelling in her arm; turned out to be a blood clot--and she was only 16 when that happened! :eek: (She went to the ER and got treated successfully.)

My husband had some crazy redness and swelling in his elbow and it was a staph infection. Apparently they do not fully understand why these things happen. It is good that he checked it out. They threatened him with IV antibiotics if it did not settle down with the oral antibiotics.
