Hey Hollywood - just catching up again! So sorry you fell, tho I know that is old news now! Glad you are ok. I have to admit that I am STILL too scared to take a shower unless my husband is there. We have a wet room, which is great for space but not so easy to get from the wet bit to the dry bit on crutches! Hope the PT is still going well. I am like you, no side to side movement yet. It hurts if I even move it a little bit that way!

Planemark - I had a calcaneal osteotomy too, but no tendon work so I am pwb. My doc is always encouraging me to put more weight on the heel but I agree, it is pretty scary. Also my heel is still partly numb, so it feels weird too!

WeensGT - welcome from me too . Yes, I'm afraid recovery from foot surgery is a long and often boring road. Even tho this is my second I still have to keep reminding myself that I'll have a long way to go even when I can walk without crutches!

Hi Joyful - so glad you are off the crutches. That's amazing! Enjoy your freedom!

Pznatti - I know it was a while ago you asked about the PT frequency, but anyway... I'm only going once a week at the mo, due to complicated insurance reasons, but I might try twice when I am working on my foot a bit more. I think in the early stages sometimes it is just about learning to walk again, and they'll be able to give you exercises to do at home. Check your PT's opening hours - could you go before or after school, or is that a problem cos of your littlies?
Hollywood- I'm sorry to hear that your ankle was swollen and you are in so much pain after your busy weekend. Sometimes the mind is stronger than the body can keep up. Listen to your therapist sounds like good advice. Hopefully your pain was temporary and you still have the memories of a nice weekend.

Joyful- I feel so bad for you having to drive on your surgery foot, even if it is only twice a week. I don't know if I could do it, but when you have no other options you just have to do what you have to do. Hang in there!
As for workers comp, isn't it a pain in the neck! I have been in the BWC system since November 2010. A witness sounds good, but you can also look up the Dr's notes on the BWC website which should help your case. I am single and go to my apps alone, but I have a caseworker who goes to all my apps with me. Surprisingly she has been very helpful.

Pznatti- you should be getting that cast off soon! Enjoy the time you have in the cast cause your foot is going to hurt bad when they ale it off. That and all the numbness is really annoying.

Amythi5t and everyone else- I hope you are doing good. Looking forward to your updates.

Today was my big day, I finally got the cast off. Woo hoo!! It felt so good to finally get air on my foot and leg, and he warm washcloth felt wonderful. The x-rays show that my heel hasn't fully healed up and I still can't put any weight on it untill I see the Dr in two weeks. I was cleared to start PT (have to wait 2 weeks for an appt) and they gave me a brace with an adjustable hinge. Unfortunately, I have to sleep in it to protect my foot because I am such a rough sleeper.
I really like my Dr, but he was so swamped today that I walked away with more questions than answers. Next time I am going to write them down and make sure I get some answers. I asked if PT was going to put me in much pain and my OS said I wouldn't be in any pain from it. He didn't give me any prescription for more pain meds. I guess I should have pressed the issue, but if I am in too much pain I will be calling his office ASAP. I do have a few Vicodin left from the original prescription.
I have been in pain all evening from them manipulating my foot at the Dr office today. The x-ray was rough, and I had to use a piece of tape to hold my foot in a good position for them. that was really rough! My foot is so numb and swollen from all this. I actually regretted having the surgery for the first time. I'm sure I will feel allot different when the foot starts to feel better, but tonight I have to say that this sucks! Just took a Vicodin, iced and elevated my foot and massaged some lotion on my leg. I hope I can get some sleep tonight.
I too am getting ancy and want my life back already! I think after we all heal up that we are going to need a nice vacation! I keep dreaming about a relaxing cruise in the Caribbean. Meet y'all on the Lido deck for a margarita! :-)

Hi Planemark - definitely like the idea of going to the Caribbean - only I had to use all my leave for this surgery! Sigh. I drove into work today - by the time I got here I was so uncomfortable & so discouraged by the pain I wound up crying a little bit. I was walking this morning and felt everything in my ankle go "pop". It really hurt....so I guess the swelling must be going down...which I guess is a good thing :) I took a tramadol at 6am and another one at 730am when I got to work, sigh. I agree I think we all want our lives back!
PLANE--Good luck at the doctor tomorrow. I hope you get the answers n the burning pain in your arch. Sounds like it might be a nerve problem? Did your doctor say anything about moving nerves around during surgery? They have to do that with my surgery so both times they moved the nerve that innervates my lateral foot and 4th and 5th toes. They were completely numb after surgery and then they slowly started waking up and now the top/lateral area of my foot burns when anything touches it or brushes it! Let us know what your doctor says!!

JOYFUL--Woohoo for PT orders! Praying it doesn't take WC forever to process the order! You will really feel like you are making strides towards getting better and stronger! Plus you develop a relationship with your therapist that is nice and encouraging and someone who cares about getting you better and managing your pain. How many times per week and for how many weeks did they order for you?? What else did your doctor have to say?

AFM--Had my visit with my OS today. He's always so sweet, but today he was in an exceptionally great mood and he had my friend Kim and me laughing hysterically! He was pleased over all with my ankle I think. For some reason, I had turned very pink and he was wondering why I was so pink and I attributed it to sun exposure for the first real time since I had been in doors recuperating from surgery. But my ankle/foot was pink and it had been in a tennis shoe. My foot gets so red when it swells. Anyone else? Then he manipulated it (ouch still!), pressed over every area to see where I might still hurt and rubbed my scar. I explained I was still swelling a lot and having pain with it when it swells. But of course since it was early in the day, it wasn't very swollen so he thought it looked great! I told him it would be huge by tonight (and it was along with redness, bruising and pain) and he said that's still normal. Told him about the cyst and how big it was and how much it hurt my 1st MTP joint. Told him it was some smaller but 2 wks later still present. He examined the joint and was way more concerned with how loose THAT joint is. Says I'm very flexible and asked if I saw in the "W" position as a kid. I didn't, but I'm very flexible. Can bend my fingers all the way back to where my hand and fingers form an upside down "V". Really helped in gymnastics and now in working out. But he said it could be causing my ankle issues and may cause issues with other joints (fantastic!). He said he didn't want to have to go in there (meaning my 1st MTP joint). I don't want him to either! So I am continuing therapy for at least another 3-4 weeks and increasing to 3x/wk and told him I'm in the most painful part of my recovery. He gave me an Rx for pain meds and I go back and see him again in 3 wks. Hopefully, the cyst won't be there and I won't have pain in that joint!
