Foot & Ankle Problems Board Index

I am 8 wks post op from ankle reconstruction surgery. I got my cast off last Weds and was put in a walking boot. My doctor told me to wear the boot 24-7 except for showering. He figured I would need to use my knee scooter for a day or so after getting my cast off, then use the crutches to assist with PWB. I am to put weight on my ankle as much as I can tolerate. He said I'd probably get rid of the crutches in a week. He also said that the outside of my foot, where the bone and tendon work was done is healing a bit slower than he expected, but that I'm still doing well.

I am working full time now. I use my crutches, and I'm up and down all day. When I go home, Im very swollen so I elevate and ice.

It hurts pretty bad to put the slightest weight on the outside of my foot. Very tender yet. Tomorrow is a week since getting my walking boot and I cannot imagine walking without the help of crutches yet. How do I determine if this is abnormal? Should I be able to walk without the crutches by now? I can't get the timeframe of one week out of my head because the doc mentioned that he thought I'd be able to ditch the crutches in a week. Oh, and I have to be in the boot for 3 wks. then get it off and go to PT.
