Foot & Ankle Problems Board Index

I have been exercising nearly all my adult life...sports as a young girl and today still work out weekly at the gym, have a personal trainer twice a week, do speed walking, and did two marathons in my 50's. My big toe which has bothered me for about 10 years is now bone-on-bone with "severe" (as diagnosed by my orthopedic surgeon) arthritis and toe fusion surgery has been recommended as the best solution to end my pain. Have surfed the internet quite thoroughly but I would like to find out a few more answers from anyone out there who has/had my condition, similar exercise background and this surgery. The recovery information I've read about sounds very lengthy, painful, debilitating and frankly scary. But I think my biggest concern is whether I'll be able to resume the same activities I enjoy now after I've healed. While I'm aware that everyone's conditions are different, I'm hoping to hear from someone that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Look forward to hearing some positive news...Thanks!
