Ankle Fusion Q?'s
Jan 13, 2014
I am 49 years old, controlled diabetic, (A1C-5.4 or lower, BG Average-69-101), and was diagnosed wit Charcot Foot in August 2011. With no insurance all this time, and on SSDI, my Medicare will start Feb. 2014.
My ortho. surgeon wants to do an ankle fusion, over amputation, but said there are risks, infection being the highest risk. She did state my Talus was "mushy" and wants the chief ortho. surgeon to have a meeting with me and my surgeon.
My foot is somewhat deformed, but, my surgeon said all broken bones did heal, which is a good sign. She said they would go in, break all the bones, and do a TCC (?) fusion.
Is there anyone out there that can explain to me in simple terms what I am about to go through, and my recovery time, and my possible end results?
