Foot & Ankle Problems Message Board

Foot & Ankle Problems Board Index

I am posting this for my husband who had his left ankle fused in 2006. The fusion was due to arthritis and several unsuccessful surgeries. He was also in a car accident in 1992 that left him with 11 bones broken from the waist down, including both ankles a re-attached thumb and a severed liver. He is currently seeing a pain management specialist who is nearing the end of the road for treatment and pain managenment options. He has had several sympatheritic nerve blocks in the past which have worked, but the recent ones haven't. He has also taken the drug Lyrica, which worked for a little while, but then made him loopy. He will be starting cymbalta which I am hopeful for, and he is presently on nortrypteline (2days). Anyone had this happen to them? What kind of outcome did you have? My husband is 40 which is too early for him to reach the end of his pain management rope. He is also still working. Another suggestion his Doctors have given him is an electrostimulator to block the nerve signals from reaching the brain. I read up on this and noticed it is only 50-60% effective. He would get to have a trial run until it would be implanted. Any suggestions would help! Thanks! Stephanie
