Big toe fusion
Jun 14, 2014
I'm having toe fusion surgery on June 25th on my left toe. The hemi implant put in just 6 months ago didn't work and the joint is more painful than before.

I'm having the University of Minnesota Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Surgery do my surgery. A foot specialist is going to supervise the surgery, he has done hundreds of these procedures. I am a little concerned though that student doctors will be doing the actual surgery with the expert specialist right there. Should I be worried about that? The U of M has an excellent reputation.

Secondly, they will be using a cadaver bone graft to fill the space where the implant will be removed. Should I ask they use my own bone for the graft or is the cadaver graft just as good of a way to go?

I have been in a lot of pain and looking forward to having this done so I can get back to being more active.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Jim
