Foot & Ankle Problems Message Board

Foot & Ankle Problems Board Index

The sooner you see a doctor and have an x-Ray, the sooner you will know what is going on with your foot. Delaying medical treatment could cause more damage to your foot and heel. if you do end up needing surgery, please ask for a board certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in the foot and ankle. Some insurance companies may refer you to a podiatrist -- if they do, make sure this person is board certified in rear foot reconstruction of the foot and ankle as well. It is an additional certification that many DPMs do not have.

In terms of recovery from surgery, it depends on your injury. You will want to talk to your doctor in depth to fully understand the procedure and recovery time. It is also possible that you just bruised the heel bone and do not need surgery. If your heel is not swollen and red, that is a good sign. Elevation above your heart and ice can help a lot, especially the first 24-72 hours.

Please see a doctor today to see what's going on. Good luck!
